Construction Begins on Casey’s in SW Cedar Rapids
Ankeny-based chain continues to add, buy stores
Construction has begun on a new Casey’s General Store in southwest Cedar Rapids, part of the company’s continued expansion.
Building permits and site plans filed with the Cedar Rapids Building Services Department show a 4,346-square-foot store and a 7,525-square-foot fuel canopy at 4560 16th Ave. SW, near the northeast corner of Jacolyn Drive and 16th Avenue SW.
Mike Richardson, Casey’s vice president of marketing, said the store is expected to open in the first or second week of December. It will employ about 20 people and sell the company’s typical food lineup and beverages as well as gasoline and diesel fuel.
Septagon Construction of Cedar Rapids is the general contractor for the project. Site preparation work began on July 23 and a foundation for the store was finished last Friday.
Casey’s has added, remodeled or replaced a number of stores in the Cedar Rapids area in recent years. The publicly-owned company built and opened 85 new stores, acquired 26 stores, completed 30 replacements, and remodeled 74 stores in its most recent fiscal year, which ended on April 30.
As of April 30, there were 31 new stores, four replacement stores, and three major store remodeling projects under construction.
The new Casey’s in Cedar Rapids will be immediately south of Cypress Senior Residence, a 51-unit senior housing complex under construction at 12th Avenue and Jacolyn Drive SW. (Read the Full Article)
